Teaching the International Classroom
Introduction
What is the added value of working with an international student body? What are the differences between teaching a homogeneous Dutch (working) group or a diverse international group? Is it simply a matter of language differences, or are there other factors to take into account? How do I identify my own teaching style? What should I do if students don’t ask questions? How can I ensure the different nationalities in a mixed group interact with one another? How should cultural differences in project groups be handled? What is the best way to manage grading discussions?
The three training sessions on ‘Teaching the international classroom’ adopt a personal and interactive approach. There will be ample opportunity to talk about your own situation, study and discuss relevant topics and role-play critical incidents. Identifying common cultural elements allows you to recognize cultural differences and to make constructive use of these differences in an intercultural educational setting.
During the training sessions you will learn responses to these questions as well as practical tips that you can use in your own international classroom.
